Crystal Yu is an actor, director, and educator who has made a name for herself with her captivating performances on both the big and small screens. She is best known for her role as Dr. Lily Chao in the BAFTA award-winning medical drama Casualty on BBC One.
Crystal starred alongside Jason Watkins and Sir Ian McKellen in the 96th Academy Awards shortlisted live action short film The One Note Man. Her recent TV and film credits include Sunrise with Guy Pearce, Good Omens Season 2 for Amazon, The Sandman for Netflix, BBC's Doctor Who, Sister Boniface and Silverpoint, Soulmates for AMC, and Netflix's A Christmas Prince: The Royal Baby. She also worked closely with Claudia Black in Deus, a thrilling space adventure set in the orbit of Mars.
As a writer and director, Crystal has also garnered critical acclaim. Her short film GRIT, created for the 2022 London 48 Hour Film Project, was nominated for Best Film and Best Direction and won Best Actor and Best Cinematography. Are You Sleeping?, which she wrote and directed, premiered at the 2020 Frightfest Film Festival and was later nominated for Best Director Short Film at the Unrestricted View Horror Film Festival 2020. Her work has also been recognized by the Arts Film Awards, where her film Questions to Love received an Honorable Mention, and the China Women's Film Festival, where it was selected for screening.
Crystal's contributions to the arts have not gone unnoticed, as she was selected as a proud finalist for the 2020 Asian Women of Achievement Awards (AWA) for her outstanding work in Arts and Culture. As the patron of SLiDE Dance, Crystal is passionate about promoting inclusivity in the arts and strives to ensure that dance is accessible to people of all ages and abilities.
